Ms Bridgette Sekhonyane grew up at Matatiele in the Eastern Cape and attended Wessel Maree High School in Odendaalsrus. In 2012, they moved to Klerksdorp where she completed her grade 12 at Educators High School. Thereafter, she was a student at Vuselela TVET College, Klerksdorp Campus, from 2014 to 2016. She enrolled for a NC(V) programme, namely Primary Agriculture. After completion of the NC(V) certificate, she furthered her studies at the Central University of Technology, where she enrolled for a Diploma in Agricultural Management, which she completed in 2019.
After completing her diploma in 2019, she was employed by Thuto Ya Setshaba Training Services as an administration clerk by Mrs Perseverance Madoda. She was an intern during her WIL year in 2018, and because of her hard work and determination, she managed to be absorbed by the farm for a period of two years.
Her duties on the farm included record-keeping of all farm production services’ income and expenditure, co-ordinating training learning materials, and assisting Vuselela TVET College Primary Agriculture lecturers with the monitoring and development of practicals for students.
In 2020, she obtained an Advanced Diploma in Agricultural Management qualification from the Central University of Technology while working as an administration clerk at Thuto Ya Setshaba Training Services and, in 2021, she enrolled for a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education. She conducted her practicals at New Vision High School in Klerksdorp, where she managed to develop her dynamic teaching skills, and she also registered with SACE.
In 2022, she enrolled for a Post-Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Management at the Central University of Technology. She resigned from Thuto ya Setshaba Training Services and was employed at Educators High School for five months as an educator. Her duties included the implementation of the designated curriculum, conducting assigned classes at scheduled times, planning lessons and managing the classroom to keep all learners engaged in the lesson.
In 2023, she obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Management, majoring in sustainable animal production, from the Central University of Technology. From February 2023 to date, she has been employed at the Department of Agriculture as an agric-advisor. Her duties include rendering scientific and technical agricultural food security services to internal and external clients, supporting the development of research and training activities, performing administrative and related functions, ensuring the implementation of all strategic agricultural development programmes, implementing and monitoring agricultural projects, and providing advisory services to farmers, projects and indigents regarding all farming practices.
It was a long and hard road since she started her studies at Vuselela TVET College, but through hard work and determination, she is a successful lady!
